RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - On August 15, 2021, RCPD officers conducted a Minor Decoy Operation in the City of Rancho Cordova.
The Minor Decoy program focuses on reducing the availability of alcohol to minors and alcohol-related crime to keep our community safe. In addition, the program reminds local businesses of the responsibilities and accountability associated with the sale of alcoholic beverages.
A minor under the direct supervision of RCPD attempted to purchase alcohol at eight California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC)-licensed businesses in the city. RCPD officers cited one business for selling alcohol to a minor and educated all businesses on checking identification for alcohol sales.
A business that sells to a minor faces a minimum fine of $250 and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation. In addition, ABC will take administrative action against the ABC license of the business where alcohol was sold to a minor, which may include a fine, a suspension of the license, or the permanent revocation of the license.
One strategy in the city’s four-pronged, proactive policing approach is crime prevention. RCPD partners with residents and businesses to identify and implement ways to deter crime before it occurs. RCPD will continue to partner with these businesses on crime prevention and compliance.
ABC encourages licensees to sign up for ABC’s Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) training free of charge. Licensees and their employees can take the training online. Learn more about ABC enforcement programs and prevention programs that can help increase public safety.
