RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Exciting things are happening at our Rancho Cordova schools!
At George Washington Carver High School, four seniors, Bernie, Arana, Jaiden and Bella made it into the top ten at a Caring for Our Watersheds contest. They placed ninth out of 350 teams from throughout Northern California for their proposal about using sustainable materials to make resin art. The contest challenges high school students to research their local watershed, identify an environmental concern and come up with a realistic solution.
Students at George Washington Carver also won first place at a MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement) contest for their wind-powered vehicle.
At Williamson Elementary School, a Bookworm Vending Machine recently inched its way into the school’s multipurpose room. Students receive golden tokens for positive behavior and consistent attendance and exchange them for books, which are viewable through the machine’s glass display case.
The Bookworm Vending Machine was supported by the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, Kiwanis Club of Rancho Cordova, the Folsom Cordova Unified School District and the UPS Store #1614 in Gold River/Toys for Tots Literacy Program.
