Youth Center, White Rock Road and Outfall Repair Celebrated
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova was honored with three Project of the Year awards from the Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). The projects included the Rancho Cordova Youth Center (RCYC), White Rock Road Phase Two and the American River Outfall Four Repair project.
“We are truly humbled to receive these awards. Each of these projects is a testament to the coordination and support of city staff, project partners, the City Council and our residents,” said Public Works Director Albert Stricker. “We would like to thank the APWA Sacramento Chapter for this honorable recognition.”

Rancho Cordova Youth Center
Located at 10455 Investment Circle, RCYC is the first youth center in the City of Rancho Cordova. It is centrally located and serves elementary and teenage students with a focus on equity and inclusion, mentorship, academic support and sports activities. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento, in collaboration with Rancho Cordova Police Activities League, operates RCYC. Center of Praise Ministries, a multi-ethnic church, donated the building and land to the city specifically for a youth center in 2020 and the city celebrated the grand opening of the center in November 2022. White Rock Road Phase Two
The White Rock Road Phase Two project is part of an innovative planning effort to alleviate regional congestion, improve roadway safety, nurture economic development, and promote the livability and quality of life in the greater Sacramento region. This project constructed a 1.5-mile, four-lane segment of White Rock Road from Fitzgerald Road to approximately one half-mile east of Rancho Cordova Parkway, providing a parallel route to Highway 50 and alleviating traffic congestion and reducing travel times. The project was completed in December 2022.
American River Outfall Four Repair Project
This project rehabilitated a 45-year-old damaged storm drain outfall near Ambassador Park. As part of project construction, the American River Parkway Trail was closed starting at the El Manto entrance to the Sunriver Park Entrance for one month in coordination with the County of Sacramento. Project improvements included a sloped concrete apron, large rock cobble, landscaping surrounding the outfall and a handrail. The project was completed in November 2022.
